5th Grade Website
Fifth grade is the final year of elementary school and forms a pivotal bridge between the more concrete concepts of elementary school and the abstract learning and independence of middle school. In fifth grade, students will work cooperatively to solve problems, whether the problems are academic or social in nature. The focus shifts in fifth grade from simply how to do something to why we do things and the critical-thinking skills involved in reasoning. Fifth grade is unique because students will take the MCAs for reading, math, and science, pushing the students with rigor while giving them tools to succeed. Some highlights of fifth grade this year include field trips to Allianz Field, the Science Museum, and Code Quest. In addition to the help and support students receive at school, we also need help from families to give our students the best skills to succeed. Please ask your child about their day and ensure they are completing homework. Completing their math homework and reading for 20 minutes is a great way for students to retain information, practice skills they are learning independently, and practice responsibility of returning work like they will experience in middle school.
